What have We started?

Talking with my sister a month or two ago, we decided that it would be a good idea to start a "family Biggest Looser" competition, not because we think we're fat, but more so that our family can work on creating healthier eating and excersicing habits. My sister has been a runner since she came out of our mother's womb, and my dad took up running a few years ago. Both have run several half marathons. I'm the type of person that sees an accomplishment and decides "that would be cool to say I did that.." even if I don't enjoy that particular activity. So I've personally watched my 54 year old Dad complete two half marathons, among the many others that he's done and decided..."I want to do it too". What a better time than now to start since we are trying to create healthy habits. It was a huge mental block for me to get over the initial thought of "WHY the heck would anyone EVER want to run 13 miles?" but once I forced myself outside I found it easier than I thought. So on Tuesday I finally got past the fear of a five mile run. I DID IT!! I ran 5 miles, and although I have many more to go before I'm able to keep up with my dad and my sister, I'm proud of myself. As for the Biggest Looser competition, I did great the first week and dropped close to three pounds, but have since gained it all back. I won't suprise me if I get to the end of this three month competition and weigh exactly what I did when I started.

Good for you Rachael!
I was doing a Biggest Loser competition with our family too... I have kind of fallen temporarily off the wagon, I was down 6 pounds at Valentines day, Injured my back, and gained back 3... oh well.
I am so not a runner, so I am very impressed with your accomplishment!

I have been having the same marathon thoughts lately. Only for me, they pretty much stay just as thoughts and don't develop in to actions. Do you have a training plan mapped out?

Rachael I'm so proud of you! Did you really run all of the 5 miles? I'm up to 3.5 but not 5 yet. I hope I don't slow you down come the first of April! Way to go!! And yes we are going to make this 1/2marathon a reality and love every minute of it!

Wow, way to go! That is impressive I must say. I am a horrible runner and it is always tough for me. That is a fun goal! :)
